At Saturday night's 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco, "American Idol" Season 8 runner-up and openly gay pop star Adam Lambert was presented with the Davidson/Valentini Award, which is given to a member of the LGBT community who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights. Adam also tied with Frank Ocean in the category of Outstanding Musical Artist.
When picking up his award from the Spice Girls' Mel B, Adam--always an eloquent speaker--gave a humorous but sincere acceptance speech about the trials and tribulations of being an out-and-proud entertainer, admitting that the situation sometimes "drives him f***in' crazy."
Said Adam: "One person thinks you should be more this, one person thinks you should be more that; the label thinks this, the fans think that; your family wishes this; this community wants you to shut up, that community wants it louder; the conservatives, the liberals…" He then broke into song, singing a line from "Whataya Want From Me" to amusingly emphasize his point.
"The best we can do is keep it real, and to spread a message of acceptance…If we can inspire even one person to open their mind or another to be who they want to be, whether they are gay, straight, old, young, man, woman, black, or white, then it's worth being objectified by the sometimes frustrating world of media sensationalism."

Adam attended the GLAAD Media Awards with his proud mom, Leila Lambert (pictured above). What a nice early Mother's Day celebration for her!
Adam Lambert will perform with third-place Season 12 finalist Angie Miller on this Thursday's "American Idol" finale.

During last night’s GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco, Adam Lambert was honored with the organization’s prestigious Davidson/Valentini Award. An award presented to an out LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality for the LGBT community. The American Idol runner-up became the first out LGBT artist to reach number one on the Billboard 200 with the release of his 2012 album Trespassing. Mel B was on hand to present the award to Glambert.

The 31-year-old also picked up another award during the event. He tied with Frank Ocean in the category of Outstanding Musical Artist category. Other honorees include Archie Comics‘ Kevin Keller and the San Francisco Giants. The baseball team is the first professional sports organization honored by GLAAD. They were the first ever professional sports team to host an HIV/AIDS benefit game in 1994 and first major league sports team to record a video for the It Gets Better project.

Joining in on the festivities were Jinkx Monsoon (RuPaul’s Drag Race); Rex Lee (Suburgatory); Jaymes Vaughn, James Davis (The Amazing Race); Kyle Richards (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills); Tamala Jones (Castle); Guillermo Diaz (Scandal) and Jessica Clark (True Blood) to name a few.
