I am just checking "Flightaware" and I have to admit that this flight route makes zero sense to me.

It has to do with the curvature of the earth. What looks like a longer route on a flattened map is actually shorter on the sphere. A straight line on a flat map is longer, because the earth is fatter along that line...if that makes sense.

Yes, exactly this. The plane is flying in an arc over the globe as opposed to a straight line. The world isn't flat with point A to point B. The roundness of the earth gives that flight pattern the shortest distance.

When the first flight was being tracked here by us, it was hugging countries. ie, Greenland, Iceland, UK. That is also done to be close to airports in case of a needed emergency landing.

Also, greater knots per hour can be achieved at such high routes. Less air traffic up there to make up time.

and ...yup...we are neighbors ......but for this year am in the Denver area, due to family stuff .......(and why I'm seeing adam at the Paramount on March 30th). ...but......when i return to SC......we must get together and gush over adam.....

Disappointing Adam won't be at Grammys. Apparently Nile had him in plans. Maybe a surprise? Where is he tommorro? Anyway. Another missed opportunity I guess. Adam deserves so much more. But I guess the universe has bigger plans.

He just landed in LA an hour ago... Home for 10 days before TOHT U.S.A. leg starts and somewhere in that time he has to filmed the RHPS in Toronto.
