We had a very interesting Thursday evening.
Our illustrious manager, Jim Beach, was to receive an award from the Music Manager’s Forum (MMF) - the Peter Grant award for outstanding achievement in managerial skills. Very well deserved, we thought, and Roger and I turned up to proudly present him with his silver trophy, the top-of-the-bill event of the night.
I actually presented the very first of these awards, to Peter Grant himself, way back in 1999, and thereafter the award was named after him, so it was nice to make the full circle, and present to our own brilliant manager.
There’s a report of the evening here,
http://www.musicweek.com/news/read/quee ... ger/061326
but it doesn’t mention a small joke that Jim threw in during his acceptance speech. He said that, in response to enquiries about the progress on the Freddie feature film, that Sacha Baron Cohen had been re-engaged to write, produce, and direct the film, as well as starring in all four major roles ! I’m afraid some folks might have taken it seriously !
But the evening went very well, including some nice live performances.
Cheers

This was just posted on Queen FB..... interesting article about Roger....
within the article he talks about the Fressie biopic....this sounds like Sacha is not in the process ....
Roger Taylor interview: The Queen drummer has written the soundtrack for British film Solitary
Tomorrow night at the Genesis Cinema in Mile End sees the UK gala screening of a new lowish-budget British film called Solitary, directed by Sasha Krane, the...
It was certainly a far more straightforward affair to produce than the long-gestating, Peter Morgan-scripted Freddie Mercury biopic. Originally, Sacha Baron-Cohen was due to play the flamboyant Queen frontman (who died in 1991 at the age of 45) but Taylor didn't think the Borat comedian was quite right for the role.
"In the end, we felt that Sacha, brilliant, subversive comedian though he is, wasn't really at heart an actor. We didn't want to make it funny. We wanted a brilliant actor who was going to move people in both directions, to tears and laughter and joy. We didn't really feel in the end that he [Baron-Cohen] was right. We wanted an amazingly good actor in the purest sense."
Ben Whishaw is currently attached to play Mercury. Taylor describes Morgan's script as "very good" and adds: "What we are coming up with now is really based on Peter's original screenplay. It is really based around his take on it which I think is a pretty grown-up take."
Taylor and fellow band member Brian May aren't "driving" the biopic but they do have a power of veto. "We are just saying, no, we don't think that is a good idea or we really like that."

Thanks for that info, Nica....I've only ever gone to the daily threads over at Atop, didn't even know their forum had a Queen thread
I didn't even really know who Queen was, before Adam started singing their songs, and sang with them. But they appear to have a fascinating history, so I'll have to make my way over there and check it out. I do know I really like Brian and Roger, not just because of Adam, but as individuals.

Same here... I knew OF Queen, but I couldn't name a song by them, let alone the band members... Now I know more about them than an average Queen fan and I am IN LOVE with Dr. Bri. He is a genus in my book, so many multifaceted talents in one man! But the main talent for me is his SOUND! It is like exquisite violin at times! I never imagined an electric guitar could make sounds like that!svca:9419 wrote:Thanks for that info, Nica....I've only ever gone to the daily threads over at Atop, didn't even know their forum had a Queen thread

Nica, agree with you on Brian's sound....so weird for me, because I actually hate electric guitar.....they usually hurt my ears (very sensitive to sound)...but I can honestly say I sat mesmerized during Brian's solo during the concert, didn't want it to end.
His guitar just sings....it's amazing
