Well I guess it's not the next single off the album.

I think he's most excited about it being something fans know absolutely nothing about. He may finally have the chance to tell us something we don't already know.

Why does the single have to be connected to anything else? Its not unusual for artists these days to have standalone singles...often they release something new and then re-release the album with the new track or tracks. Tori Kelly just did that -- 2 singles off her debut album, then a standalone single with an album re-release (and fwiw her album was exec produced by Max Martin too)...the label probably felt that there were no more viable singles based on PD feedback and performance of ALN and TOH in select overseas markets. TOH didn't take off in Oz even when Adam was on tour there and doing lots of radio promo, so why bring it to the USA? They had already been burned with ALN, another track that they brought stateside and elsewhere after it didn't hit in OZ. So they scrapped any plans for Toh as third single and Adam went back to studio and recorded something new. Ofc, we have zero idea at this point if this will be a radio single, or if its just something new to perform on Idol and for the fans.
