Clay was never relevant. And the fact hes distanced himself from idol for years. He had it coming imo. Adam made a larger impact on the show imo. And is more current. My heart is a ghost town

Agreed. He did nothing but diss Idol for years. Adam, on the other hand, has always been so grateful to Idol.

Not a Clay fan but he definitely had a period when he was "relevant"...not a pop/mainstream radio star, but for a few years off of Idol Clay was HUGE in the USA...he sold a ton of records, was all over TV...people forget how big he really was here. He was more commercially successful than Adam has ever been here (sorry, but that is true; Adam has had a much longer period of relevancy but he hasn't sold as many records here as Clay even taking into account the decline in record sales) and he was HUGE. It didn't last very long, but when he was big he was big. Clay's success on the heels of Kelly's success was definitely a factor in lending legitimacy to Idol. There is plenty to complain and mock about Clay in recent years, but you can't negate the fact that he had a period of time when he was very very successful in the USA.

Your coworker is right. Some of them have gone on tour and have recording contracts but they aren't big stars or household names. I think the ones who have gone on tour are many times the country ones. I know Blake has taken one or two out on tour with him. And one of the girls from his team performed on the ACM's Sunday night. So they do go on to have careers - just not ones that make them really famous.

it's kind of odd that The Voice hasn't produced more stars because they have had, without a doubt, really talented contestants. I think it's because of the format of the show -- the coach/team aspect. People tend to get behind a coach and vote for them and not necessarily the contestant. That's why Blake's 'team' has won more than the others.

Although Idol has, at times, focused on the judges, it always gets back to the contestants/artists/music. And I believe the greatest legacy for Idol is that many many many of the contestants have gone on to have some sort of career in the business on varying levels. Many of them continue to make a living doing what they love because of Idol.

The retrospective tonight was really nice. I've watched the show since season 1. I've almost given up on the show a time or two when I didn't enjoy a season. But, I always found myself turning in to that first episode of the next season and being sucked right back in again.

Loving it, hating it, enjoying it, not enjoying it -- as a music fan there's been nothing more fun than tuning into a show where I can hear all kinds of music and in a good season discover a new artist or two that I enjoy. And in a great season discover someone like Adam who changed things for me in many ways.

Kelly, Jennifer, Bo, Carrie, David, Kris, Adam....my music collection over the last 15 years has grown because of Idol. And I love it!!

On of the big reasons the Voice hasn't been able to launch stars like Idol did (aside from the format which gives the contestants very few solo live episodes and focuses so much on the judges and guest mentors, and the fact that it runs 2x a year so that a new season is starting before the prior season's winners are launched, general singing show fatigue and glut in the market etc.) is that the Voice doesn't have the equivalent of a 19M/19R/19E. For all of the complaints about being stuck with the 19s after the show, that group really got to work to launch the Idol alums and had economic incentive to do so. The Voice has no equivalent -- the winners are just passed off to an indifferent label that made lots of money on the in=season downloads. There is no management side tied to the show, working with the contestants. The most recent winner, Jordan, is doing relatively well because the show's exec producer and his wife took a personal interest and are steering his career and helping fund and release his album. But 19 really bears a lot of the credit for launching the Idol alums careers

I really enjoyed the retrospective last night...can't blame the Clay and Kris fans for being upset lol. But Idol PTB like who the like, always have. Clay pissed them off by talking smack about the show, and they just always liked Adam more than Kris. Such is life.

see...I think it's not just that they "liked" Adam more but rather that they KNEW where the real "star" potential lies...and it sure wasn't with Kris. Not to mention they had access to voting statistics (if they bothered to look) and they had access to the geographic distribution of those votes - so unless Arkansas can bring on the world wide stardom..

also, being that AI is really about being a TV show first and the "star maker" second they very well had a good idea WHO generated most interest that season, and again it sure wasn't KA.

I loved last nights show and thought is was done really well. There was a lot of distribution of face time among many of the shows former contestants. It made sense though to showcase Adam a lot too. He is one of their huge success stories. There is NO denying that, and of course, he makes the show look good too. They are trying to go out on a high note and Adam lends great legitimacy to the show and the efforts they tried to achieve with it.

Clay, imo, could have played a big role in last nights show also. He WAS a huge success for Idol back in the day. His Claymates were just as passionate as Adam's Glamberts. It's just that somewhere along the line, Clay became very bitter and bitchy. He cooked his own goose by dissing the show. Really dumb move on his part. Whatever he felt about the show, he should have never vented it publicly. He, in essence bit the hand that fed him.

On Kris not being showcased....well, we don't know what the next two shows will do with him yet. So it's hard to make the call about how much face time he will receive. But in all honesty, he really is not on any level a success story, as a winner, of Idol. That's just the true fact of it all. I find it amusing that his die hard fans can't see that. And in their warped stanning of him, blame Adam some how. Crazy.
