Hong Kong is one of two special administrative regions (SAR) of the People's Republic of China (PRC); the other is Macau. Situated on China's south coast and enclosed by the Pearl River Delta and South China Sea, it is renowned for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour. With a land mass of 1,104 km2 (426 sq mi) and a population of seven million people, Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. Hong Kong's population is 95 percent ethnic Chinese and 5 percent from other groups.
Today, under the principle of "one country, two systems", Hong Kong's economic and political systems differ from those of mainland China. Hong Kong is one of the world's leading international financial centres, with a major capitalist service economy characterised by low taxation and free trade. The Hong Kong dollar is the ninth most traded currency in the world.

As much of Hong Kong's terrain is hilly to mountainous with steep slopes, less than 25% of the territory's landmass is developed, and about 40% of the remaining land area is reserved as country parks and nature reserves. Situated just south of the Tropic of Cancer, Hong Kong has a humid subtropical climate . Summer is hot and humid with occasional showers and thunderstorms, and warm air coming from the southwest. Summer is when typhoons are most likely, sometimes resulting in flooding or landslides. Winter weather usually starts sunny and becomes cloudier towards February, with the occasional cold front bringing strong, cooling winds from the north. The most temperate seasons are spring, which can be changeable, and autumn, which is generally sunny and dry. Hong Kong averages 1,948 hours of sunshine per year.

Hong Kong was described by Milton Friedman as the world’s greatest experiment in laissez-faire capitalism. It maintains a highly developed capitalist economy, ranked the freest in the world by the Index of Economic Freedom for 15 consecutive years. It is an important centre for international finance and trade, with one of the greatest concentration of corporate headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region, and is known as one of the Four Asian Tigers for its high growth rates and rapid development between the 1960s and 1990s. Between 1961 and 1997 Hong Kong's gross domestic product grew by 180 times while per-capita GDP rose by 87 times.

The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is the seventh largest in the world, with a market capitalisation of US$2.3 trillion as of December 2009. In that year, Hong Kong raised 22 percent of worldwide initial public offering (IPO) capital, making it the largest centre of IPOs in the world. Hong Kong's currency is the Hong Kong dollar, which has been pegged to the U.S. dollar since 1983.

Hong Kong is frequently described as a place where "East meets West", reflecting the culture's mix of the territory's Chinese roots with influences from its time as a British colony. Hong Kong balances a modernised way of life with traditional Chinese practices. Concepts like feng shui are taken very seriously, with expensive construction projects often hiring expert consultants, and are often believed to make or break a business. Other objects like Ba gua mirrors are still regularly used to deflect evil spirits, and buildings often lack any floor number that has a 4 in it, due to its similarity to the word for "die" in Cantonese. The fusion of east and west also characterises Hong Kong's cuisine, where dim sum, hot pot, and fast food restaurants coexist with haute cuisine.

Star Hall is the performance venue inside HITEC. It can accommodate audiences of 3,600 people. It is a popular venue for concerts. The 4-storey Star Hall measuring 30,000 square feet (2,800 m2) offers column-free space.

MANILA, Philippines—A back-up dancer of American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert was temporarily held at the airport after yielding ammunition for an Armalite rifle, which later turned out to be fake, a police official said on Monday.

Chief Superintendent Pedro Desuasido, chief of the police Aviation Security Group, said 20-year-old Taylor Brattun Green was about to board the Cathay Pacific flight 900 en route to Hong Kong at around 11 a.m. when he was accosted at the departure area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal 1.

Desuasido said authorities spotted 18 pieces of ammunition for Armalite rifle contained in one of Green’s luggage during an X-ray inspection.

Upon checking, however, authorities found that the ammunition were fake.

“The ammunitions confiscated were used as props during their concert,” Desuasido said, quoting a report from his officer.

Green was eventually released without charges filed.

Lambert held a concert at the SM Mall of Asia concert grounds on Sunday

recap and evaluation

i was there at the airport and was really thrilled to meet adam in person for the first time!

we initially thought the flight they were taking was CX903, which arrived at 1:15.
but after waiting for about an hour, adam still hadn't come out.
so we were expecting him in the next one from manila which would arrive at 2:30.

around three (i can't really remember i was too nervous then) we saw monte come out first,
and later on adam came out!
he waved a bit to say hi and all of us ran over to take photos of him.

he didn't really stop but paused a bit to autograph on something for one of the girls.
perhaps adam was a bit worried about taylor? i think he was quite silent today, he just waved a bit and said 'hello's and 'hi's to us.
and it was probably because none of us tried to start a conversation with him! i can't believe it! i regret it so much for not trying to talk... but i guess it's just that we all were too nervous...

(has adam or anyone ever told us not to ask for photos with him before?)
i was actually shameless enough to ask him a few times 'can i have a photo with you?' but he didn't really respond... (and i seriously freaked out afterwards and still am freaking out, like did i ask the wrong question? did i cross lines? did i annoy him? did he ever said not to ask for photos with him when he is not 'on'?)

and for your reference, i'm the girl in apple green in the above video. and now i rewatch how i behaved, i kind of feel like i was a major stalker... :'( i was actually the only one who followed him closely all the way to his car (other fans were so polite to stop upstairs, but came down later anyway to see him go) and gave my last attempt to ask for a photo (GOSH i regret it now adam must think i was annoying).

then adam waved us goodbye from inside the car with a smile.

and in the video it seems like adam told me something? after me trying to ask for a photo? i am trying to recall now what he was saying... i was too nervous to comprehend what he said :wacko:

so that's all for now i hope i didn't leave adam a bad impression on hong kong fans :unsure:

After Adam Lambert's Glam Nation Tour Concert here in Manila last October 10, 2010, the whole crew was off for their next destination. At the airport, Adam's dancer, Taylor got held because they found 18 rifles bullets on his luggage. Taylor said it was a part of his props. But in the end they just confiscated the bullets and let him go.

Adam Lambert didn't win the eighth season of American Idol, but you would never know it.

Sixteen months after the 27-year-old Californian finished second to Kris Allen in the reality contest's finale, Lambert has released a commercially successful debut, launched his international Glam Nation tour and gained hundreds of thousands of fans (or "Fanberts") the world over.

He performs in Hong Kong on Tuesday night.

"I feel like I did win," Lambert says in an e-mail interview that, sadly, robs him of the charisma that is undeniable in person. "It was a pretty stressful week leading up to the finale and it was a lot of work. After it was done, I felt like I could breathe. I got signed to a major label and I got to put out an album. That was what I had wanted from the show and I got it."

Lambert's unabashed theatricality - his penchant for tight leather, eyeliner, black nail polish and stage costumes that hint at an inner male Gaga - is what made him stand out from the get-go. Simon Fuller, super-manager and granddaddy of the Idol franchise, described him as "Mark Bolan meets Bowie, with a touch of Freddie Mercury and the sexiness of Prince".

"Freddie Mercury is definitely one of my major influences," Lambert says. "I think that there is major theatricality among female performers today, and I still can't figure out why it is missing in [men]. Hopefully the interest will break through and become more visible." For now, he seems content to be its 21st-century poster child.

At Lambert's Idol audition in San Francisco, where he sang Michael Jackson's Rock with You and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody a cappella, the judges picked up on his drama right away. "I think you are theatrical, and therefore not current," criticised Simon Cowell, presumably referring to the peak in the 1980s of classic pop-rock showmanship. Randy Jackson countered: "I think it's time for someone like you."

Sure enough, the American public's fascination with Lambert soared throughout season eight of Idol, and the cantankerous Cowell struggled increasingly to find a bad word to say. As the gossip rags drooled over Lambert's private life, threatening lurid exposes about his homosexuality (he finally came out in a Rolling Stone cover story in June 2009), the singer punched back, week in, week out, with performances that eventually brought Cowell to his feet.

"I think words are unnecessary, but I want to give you a standing ovation," he said after Lambert's now famous rendition of Tears for Fears' Mad World.

It's not every day one receives such praise, but that's by no means Lambert's finest Idol hour.

That title goes either to a performance with veteran rock stars Kiss, in which Lambert held his own musically and visually - he wore an outfit of leather, wings and platform boots, adorned liberally with glitter and rhinestones - or to the duet of We Are the Champions with Idol winner Kris Allen, backed by the remaining members of Queen themselves.

At a press conference after the season finale of Idol, Lambert was articulate, gracious and happy. Someone asked how he felt after the show. "Oh, it felt so good," he said. "I got to sing with Queen and with Kiss. I mean, first or second - it doesn't matter to me. I got to sing with two great, heroic rock bands."

Adam Lambert was raised on the stage. "It's where I thrive most," he says. "It's like my second home."

As a child in suburban San Diego, his parents encouraged him to take up musical theatre to channel his hyperactivity. "I think it was clear from an early age that I wanted to be a performer," Lambert has said. "I liked putting on costumes and getting attention."

Having honed his talent in high school choirs and musicals, he lasted five weeks at college before leaving to pursue a career in music in Hollywood.

In 2004, Lambert landed a role in the musical version of The Ten Commandments, starring Val Kilmer. By 2005, he was touring as an understudy with the Broadway cast of Wicked. "Growing up doing musical theatre, I obviously got the chance to sing a lot. I got to a point in my career where I wanted to start singing my own material in my own way and not someone else's. In essence, this was why I decided to audition for Idol."

Lambert's debut, For Your Entertainment, was released via 19 Recordings in November last year. It sold 200,000 copies in its first week. Rolling Stone's Joel Hoard described it as "a mix of radio-ready rock and electro-pop", and pointed out that the album's cover, "featuring the singer's heavily made-up face, peering seductively into the camera, [suggests] a tongue-in-cheek update of David Bowie's Hunky Dory sleeve".

"There is definitely a retro vibe to some of the material," Lambert says. "I think it is all very positive and each song has a great message."

His performance of For Your Entertainment 's title track at the 2009 American Music Awards left viewers gasping and bloggers ranting after Lambert kissed and touched male members of his band on stage.

In response to the controversy, Lambert said: "Female performers have been doing this for years, and the minute a man does it, everybody freaks out. My goal was not to p*** people off. It was to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom."

Lambert's homosexuality was, officially, kept under wraps during the competition. Previous gay contestants on Idol have spoken openly about the show's producers ordering them to stay quiet. But Lambert did next to nothing to hide who he was. As he told Vanessa Grigoriadis when he made it official: "I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I'm gay."

Many speculated, crassly, that his "lifestyle" could have cost him the vote in the end. It's an unfortunate possibility, but one that Lambert has acknowledged. He says, diplomatically: "Kris is a great guy and he is very talented. I think in that show, he was probably more appealing to the fans and the demographic that voted."

Though Lambert will, for some time, have to shoo the spectre of American Idol and its team of pop star manufacturers, it's clear he has a real chance to do something fresh. Or at least, to help advance the cause - for freedom, for madness and theatricality in pop music - that Lady Gaga hauled back to life in the summer of 2008.

One verse of a Lambert track, Sure Fire Winner, boasts the lyrics: "I was born with glitter on my face. My baby clothes made of leather and lace". We almost believe it.
